The modernization packages are available for the ZEISS models WMM, PMC, UMC, UPMC ZMC and ECLIPSE. The upgrade includes the integration of the VAST® XT active scanning sensor, if the model is a WMM with an ST touch-trigger probe. Also included are a controller, a control panel, cables, a computer and above all Calypso® CAD-based software. The offering includes all relevant system components needed for economical and reliable measuring operations.
The metrology benefits, e.g. for the WMM, are obvious: scanning instead of touch-trigger single- point measuring and thus the capture of hundreds of measurement points in a very short time. As a result, measuring results are not only more reliable, but also permit statements on size, form and position. Or self-centering probing which is possible with the DT (DynaTouch) probe. This is a very economical intermediate solution on the road to scanning technology. DynaTouch has the same performance data as a single-point probe only without the scanning functionality. It can also be easily replaced later with the VAST XT probe in the second stage of the modernization. As the stylus mount for the DT and VAST XT are identical, the acceptance of existing stylus combinations is possible once the upgrade has been performed.
Customers have confirmed that the possibility of upgrading their CMM from a touch-trigger to a scanning sensor was the key factor in their decision to modernize. In many cases, modernization is the solution which pays for itself within the shortest time as a result of the expanded range of use and the reliable measuring results. Of course,
In addition to scanning technology, Calypso is another reason for customers to buy a pre-owned ZEISS CMM: if different measuring machines are used, capacity shortages can only be quickly and efficiently countered with a uniform software environment. Calypso provides just that. For example, measuring runs generated with Calypso offline can be used on practically all measuring machines, including those from competitors (if a suitable interface exists). During the upgrade, customers placed great emphasis on Calypso due to the uniform operation of the measuring machines – from calibration of the styli to integration into existing processes – and as a result of the learn programming and the identical output protocols.

An example of a refurbishment: even an almost 20 year old WMM coordinate measuring machine with a new controller and the VAST XT scanning sensor is capable of meeting the accuracy requirements of today.
